Soon after graduation, Josephine moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where she worked for Rich's Department Store and People’s Supermarket. Always excelling in mathematics, she received an Associate Degree in Accounting from South Georgia Technical College. In 1981, Josephine moved back to Americus and worked at Cooper Lighting (then Metulax) for over 30 years.
